Why We Built This

Better communication between tenants and landlords means fewer disputes, faster repairs, and less litigation for everyone.

The problem we saw

Most tenant-landlord disputes don't start as legal battles. They start as unanswered texts, ignored voicemails, and repairs that never get scheduled. By the time a tenant files a complaint or a landlord gets a demand letter from an attorney, the relationship is already broken and the costs — for both sides — are significant.

We've seen firsthand that when tenants have a simple, professional way to put their concerns in writing, landlords respond faster and more constructively. A clear written record reduces miscommunication, creates accountability, and in many cases prevents disputes from escalating into litigation at all.

We believe that better communication tools lead to less litigation, better landlord responsiveness, and an overall better experience for tenants.

What we provide

RentNotice.org gives California tenants free tools to prepare formal written communications to their landlord about repair and habitability issues. The basic letter is always free — no account required, no strings attached.

If you choose to use our mailing service to send your letter via USPS Certified Mail, we make a small amount on that transaction, and we genuinely appreciate the support. You can also contribute whatever amount you're comfortable with to help keep the service free for others.

Who we are

RentNotice.org was founded by Enrique (Rick) Berrios — someone who has spent his career moving between worlds most people keep separate. IT, retail, construction, real estate, property management. In each one, he saw the same thing: broken systems, poor communication, and people on all sides paying the price.

Rick has been that landlord. The one who bent the rules to close a $50 gap for a man who had been homeless for ten years. The one who learned, in the most personal way possible, what having a home actually means to someone who knows what it means not to have one.

That experience didn't just stay with him. It became the reason this exists.

We serve both sides of the rental relationship. Our landlord tools live at RentNotice.com. Our tenant tools live here. Our city compliance tools live at RentRegistry.io. We believe that when everyone in the transaction has access to better tools, the whole system works better — for tenants, for landlords, and for the cities trying to make sense of it all.

We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice, but we hope our tools can make a meaningful dent on the housing crisis.
